Bluesky is having an odd little debate about use of the phrase "stochastic parrot" and how it appears to be the one phrase that just sends AI advocates into a rage, and I'm really torn, because while I'm in favor of making Ai advocates angry, I sincerely believe that parrots are capable of both understanding concepts and using language to intentionally communicate about their understandings of concepts. And I believe this is not true of LLMs

got frustrated this morning with nextcloud, spend my afternoon fighting the UI of Home Assistant (and losing), and thought 'is it too cynical to say that europeans should not do design', only to log in on mu.social and see in my 'fu' feed (official name) that W-social calls their posts "Weets"

A course on #Copilot I'm taking at work says, quote, "There's ongoing debate about the copyright implications of code generated from trained models". Microsoft of all companies should've thought about this twice before pushing for adoption, but it seems they'll YOLO it in court instead. #LLM #GenAI

If you've got some free time on your hands one of the best things you can do is to learn a language. It doesn't matter which language it is, learning any language makes the world a smaller place and brings you closer together with people you wouldn't otherwise speak to.

c/SillyLittleWebsites - No ads, no registration, just fun games and interactive web pages.

Remember when you could just go to a web page and see a fun thing or silly little website? You didn’t have register and verify your email, or close a bunch of ads, or deal with pop ups, pop overs, and dark ui patterns? Here’s a collection of silly little websites: games, productivity apps, interesting info, or surreal art projects.

Yes, it's meant to be more than games. It's more of a "here's a cool thing on the web you can just check out immediately without having to verify your email or close a bunch of popups first" kind of web pages.

Some Mastodon servers have been seeing sudden spikes in remote media storage over the past few months, caused by bots crawling public pages and forcing Mastodon to re-download old media.

I wrote a short post on what's happening and how to reduce it:

When a highly precise electric current is provided, collagen can become temporarily malleable. If all goes well, this might be the basis for the eyesight therapies of the future. sciencedaily.com/releases/2026/09/260927034004.htm #ShareTheGoodNewsToo

Got a new query for any Spanish speakers, as you were all so helpful earlier! Would absolutely love to find the location of this building, the Centro de Estudios Germinal in San José, Costa Rica, in 1913. Any assistance would be much appreciated!
