Alison Frantz is a woman that did basically everything, and yet this is the first time I even hear about her. Women in STEM have been historically done dirty in an industrial scale...
Meet Alison Frantz (1903–1995)—a true polymath whose camera lens and intellect helped shape history! From pioneering archaeological photography in Athens (including capturing the famous Linear B tablets) to serving with the OSS during WWII and acting as a US cultural attaché, her impact was massive. She even helped restore the Church of the Holy Apostles!
Her groundbreaking work in post-classical and Byzantine archaeology changed how we study history.

More like after having kids start school. I wake up at 7am instead of sleeping at 7am now.
Although I could probably still pull it off if I'm having a moment with Minecraft or something... assuming tomorrow's a Saturday.

My recipe, a 4G dumb flip phone for calls, texts and calendar/alarm functions and a PinePhone Pro (currently running mobian) as a sort of tablet.
I do not want to go back to Android or any derivatives as a daily driver.
I have never used iOS but I have never liked what I have seen.
Liquid Glass was a HUGE step forward for turning "this is a very functional device that does what I want it to" into "about 30-40% of the time the device just neglects to do what it's supposed to for large periods of time and emits crashes regularly.
Truly Android-level functionality.

@jbaert It has become indeed quite common that I often don't want to read / check the script once again. Instead I run the curl in a pod and then copy the artifact to my system.
Where did we go wrong? Probably too many different package managers out there and/or too little time to maintain them. Even if they make an rpm /deb pkg, what guarantee you have nothing fishy happens in the postinstall?
tired: curl | sudo bash
wired: yes | sudo bash <(curl)
I can't say nothing, deb.fbxl.net has repos for many many operating systems, but there's exactly one command listed with a universal installer for setting up repos on many of them.
In my case it's because freebasic is a basic compiler, and the goal was to make it easy to install damn near everywhere. The problem is, there's a lot of everywhere. Just on Linux you have debian-based, RPM based, arch-based, slackware based, and within those categories you have a number of different distributions and distribution versions. And then you have Solaris and open solaris, the various bsds, haiku, windows via cygwin or mingw, not to mention MacOS, and that's just the OSes that apply to package managers and she'll scripts. Just making the machinery to produce packages for all those is tough enough, but then you're trying to figure out how to make it easy for OSes to actually just install and be capable of staying up to date afterwards.
More ideal would be getting the packages added to every distro, but that really isn't in the cards, so you're stuck playing the hand you've got.

This 3D display generates a light field by scanning a modified Nipkow Drum in front of a very high refresh rate screen.

The outer drum operates the same way as a mechanical TV, with a helical arrangement of holes performing a raster scan of the inner light source. However, instead of a single diffuse light source, the inner screens project a full 2D image per hole, synchronised with the rotation and updated 512 times per frame. This means the light from each hole is view dependent, and both eyes see a perspective correct view of the scene regardless of how many people are looking or where they are in space.
It's surprisingly difficult to capture the effect on video. In the room, the stereo effect is extremely solid, and the perspective works for both large head movements and subtle shifts, resulting in an image that's very solidly locked in space. On video the coarse pixel grid dominates, and it tends to read as a low resolution 2D image.
The 3D effect comes at a cost. The resolution as seen by one eye at one instant is around 100x48, but to achieve that it's generating more than 5 million rays per frame (effectively 3K resolution), most of which head off into empty space.
As a mechanically scanned display, the vertical resolution is limited by the number of holes in the drum, and the horizontal resolution is limited by the refresh rate of the backing panels. I use these LED panels because they can be driven very fast - the front 3 panels, 32x64 pixels each, update at 22500 fps in 1 bit colour. At 3 bpc it's 7500 fps, and in wraparound mode with 5 panels active it's further halved.

I was hoping the letters on the ground were the same as the ones missing from the tree. I didn't check them all, but the missing i in "decid o s" isn't in the last line.
