I just learned that almost ANY Linux distro can tell you the dynamic range of a music album.
And it’s dead simple.
Run this in the terminal and it’ll chew through every audio file in the folder, spitting out the EBU R128 summary for each one—including LRA and True Peak:

@80columns Yeah, it’s shocking how many artists completely ruin their songs because of bad mastering.
Just to tell you how bad it is: I have CDs of Synchronicity by the Police, issued in 1983; and I Am Not Myself by Hotel Mira, issued in 2023. So those two CDs were issued literally 40 years apart from each other.
Synchronicity has average loudness of -21.5 LUFS. Meanwhile, I Am Not Myself has average loudness of -7.3 LUFS.

I love love love this community but out in the real world I experience so much hostility from people whenever I propose alternatives to Big Tech platforms. Well, hostility or condescending reactions that attempt to paint me as an eccentric or radical...
