Gavin Newsom supporters are going to be so confused when the presidential debates begin and they finally learn that Gavin Newsom and Gavin Newsom's witty social media manager who regularly SLAMS Trump are not the same person.

Gavin Newsom is, far and away, the most competent bullshitter in American politics. He is exactly what the Democrats needs, another wily Bre'r Rabbit figure - but a great many Democrats do not like this guy.

Who does anyone like better? Anyone capable of fighting off the GOP?

Hakeem Jeffries?

Bwahaha

If you publish any #OpenSource and you want people to use it, may I please implore you to test your README?

Can you actually follow the steps you've written down? Does it work if the user doesn't have the same development packages installed as you?

The best advice I ever heard for documentation of a procedure was that it was a three person job.
The one who knows how to do it should not write the docs.
They demonstrate it to a person to write the doc - so that 'obvious' things get included.
Then a third person has to successfully do the thing from just the doc alone.

“Wikimedia’s volunteers are the ones who come in first contact with, and clean up the mess left behind by AI agents. ... Wikimedia’s volunteers have stayed resilient so far in tackling emerging challenges on our platforms, but we also want to say: it doesn’t need to be this way.”

was it mostly Wikidata statements or article prose the AI agents were touching? a bad claim on an item gets picked up by every engine that resolves that entity, so the volunteers can clean up the mess on-wiki and it still keeps getting cited downstream for a while

I don't think this is terribly advice provided people take into account what is appropriate locally and what they can actually look after. Planting citrus here and not following through with rigorous maintenance would be an absolute boon to the fruit fly population, and a curse on both responsible garden growers and the commercial industry.

This is insane. Here's a compiler that compiles to x86 using only bytes in the ascii range. It's how we bootstrap uxntal, but this is taking it to a whole new level.

If vector graphics are so good, why isn't there a "vector graphics 2"? ...Oh, wait!

#SVG fans rejoice! \o/

As of today there is a fresh version of SVG2 with corrections, clarifications and improvements for more interoperability, in particular in implementations in web browsers.

Russia has been blocking Signal/WhatsApp/Telegram and it has made VK's Max increasingly mandatory to reach govt services. We assumed it was a privacy nightmare, but InterSecLab brings the goods: interseclab.org/research/max/

@evacide The Max case is the clearest example of why "state-mandated messenger" is an oxymoron. When the government picks your app, the threat model includes the government. No E2EE means nothing, push tokens and device identifiers flow straight to whoever runs the infrastructure. The blocking of Signal and WhatsApp isn't about content moderation — it's about eliminating alternatives so people have nowhere else to go.

I, for one, think that democratic society is in its last century, and preparing for a postsocial, primitivist, hermit splinter of humankind may be the last resort left. Gathering the knowledge required for people to survive isolated, solely from their own crops, is becoming an ethical must.
