Actually, no.

That was one Microsoft employee, speculating on his own during a press interview. It was never the official position of the company.

(Plenty of legit reasons to hate on Microslop. No need to bring up debunked shit.)

Before it was debunked, it was "common knowledge" for several months that Microsoft was representing Windows 10 as their last OS, the start of rolling releases that mean you never really get a new OS, you're constantly getting a new OS. The story kind of faded and the debunk didn't really reach "awareness threshold" until Win11 was announced.

10 and 11 are both rolling releases, which many Linux Distros have adopted as well, and with the pace of update and patch distribution lately most OSs have at least some of the flavor of a rolling release - 1313 patches from Debian under DSA-6528-1, and new DSAs every few weeks.

Eh ... isn't the whole point of a rolling release that it doesn't have version updates like that? In a true rolling release, you never need to reinstall to upgrade to the new version. If 10 really was 'rolling release', then there would be no need for 11.

71% seems like a low number, it's first in the last few years Linux have begun having OSes suitable of gaming - Without having to fiddle a ton, convenience is what made Windows win gaming.

Stuff is slowly turning to Linux, but unfortunately does big organisations lock themselves in with Microsoft and Apple. It's fairly common for universities to advise against having a Linux PC for study use cases. Due to their underlying suppliers and whatever their contracts state - Again, convenience.

Hopefully Germany and France manages to make a proper cloud based competitor to stuff like OneDrive or Google drive, as they're looking into removing American based licences in their public sector. It would make most European orgs consider the same, just having OpenLibre with a cloud subscription could honestly untangle a lot.

Hmm, our central services are mostly open source based, I think. Hard to measure.

Yes, everyone uses the ActiveDirectory to login, even some Linux users, but most web-based services rely on Open Source. Things like Seafile and OnlyOffice is used more and more. We have BigBlueButton as a working alternative to Zoom. My workflow is completely Linux-based. Many colleagues could switch, too, if they want to.
