incredible mask off moment for the AI industry here with "minimal refusal rates": a tool for laundering what you've already decided to do. you're running it past the chatbot mainly so you can blame it for whatever consequences come. in a very real sense the US military here understands the software better than most of the people working on it.

in another sense this is the conflict over its publicly proclaimed value. the military and thousands of other orgs need it to be a laundered, intellectualized rubber stamp for the same old capitalist imperialist death merchant policies. but that makes the companies selling them the software look very bad & not very essential, so they must counter-insist that it's a real boy, a new type of consciousness, blah blah. while still giving less than a fraction of a damn about human beings and society.

a future US government might consider holding persons using an AI tool in such a manner directly responsible for the laundered decision. And determine accountability up the org chart from that point.

This transparent AI laundering of decision making only works if no one cares.

The entire US military - industrial complex is trying to fill in all the details of the Terminator and Matrix series backstory in real life to answer the lingering questions about how we arrive at dystopia.
