@LunaDragofelis She might have preferred it this way. She comes from the generation when the gate-keepers believed in stealth, and a lot of trans people accepted this. I mean — one of the important points of Lynn Conway's story is that she only became public about her transitude in light of an alleged journalist effectively threatening to out her. Lynn seems to have believed that the times had changed, but we can't impute this to everybody.
