I don't understand why these systems are able to be altered remotely at all, I'd expect an air gap where they can be monitored, but not controlled.

"Oh yeah? Well, this is Frank. He can read thermometers, too. You can text him for a status update. He won't set the thermostat above freezing regardless of what calls he gets, because he knows it's his job to keep it cold."

in reply to Remember_the_tooth • • • Public MessageI totally agree!
Even easier for Frank, make it a normally open/closed relay that sends a trap to an M&C or sends email/sms when its outside set boundaries. (work in this area) Its used for simple systems like this.
I can't see a reason why (and I grew up in restaurants) that my old man would want to change the freezer settings remotely. Also our guy was named Al, he looked like an Al, he talked like an Al and he could fix ANYTHING.

There are more, but as a summary, he has found basically everything from personal computers to busses, to caviar factories, to hydro electric powerplants to malls and more having their control system exposed to the internet.

As an RF engineer and a former WARDriver I want to delve into RFID and how bad the security is.
Since Mythbusters wasn't allowed to test it and the rash of RFID car thefts I'm pretty sure I'll end up on another list.
