I see people do this all day. What's wrong with just using the phone like we've always used the phone? On your ear? Do they think it looks cool? Can't be the sound because it definitely doesn't sound better.

A some point in the last decade, humanity collectively decided that listening to their phone from the bottom speaker while holding it perpendicular to their ear was the most efficient and least ridiculous way to use it.

Even people who clearly grew up with home phones seem to have forgotten that phones have always had, and still have, an earpiece.

I would propose that the first time someone does it, they're removed from the bus and forced to wait for the next one

The second time, they get a fine proportional to income

Third time, banned from that public transit mode for a few years at least

why do you assume that the default is that people want to listen to your music?

basically everyone has a different taste in music and most people aren't going to like your music no matter what you play

there's a lot of people that won't ask you to turn it off because someone that is shameless enough to blast music in public transportation is also likely to be dangerous

I don't and honestly, I've just leaned into the trope more because it triggers so many people on lemmy.

I don't think I've ever honestly played loud music on a bus. The idea of being bent outta shape if someone plays music in a public space is so strange to me.

So I just choose to be one of the mildly disruptive individuals in everyone's hypothetical just to explore the topic further. 📻

The second part is weird.

If you're on a >12 hour bus, I don't see an issue with curling up with you feet on the seat next to you to sleep.

Edit: I guess there's no such long busses here because Singapore is so small?

Glad to hear. I'm pretty sure anyone who plays music on their phone without headphones has a mental illness.

Would be good for our government to send them to correctional facility for treatment.

What's wrong with sitting on the floor, if no seats are free?
