For the time being live feeds for local and remote timelines have been disabled for people who are not logged in on mstdn.social, masto.ai or mastodon.coffee
This is to redcure the amount of scraping by bots and LLMs that reforce our instance to redownload older media and bump up the price even more and fast
This change does not change anything for you!
Maybe a tip for other admins also

Posts are still public available for those who have open accounts, it's purely the live feeds

in reply to stux⚡️ • • •oh, interesting. I'd like to see a feature in Mastodon to scroll through other server's local feeds specifically but that's not a thing yet.
So, if I go to my home page on another server, I'll still see mstdn.social posts federated normally though?

in reply to stux⚡️ • • •Thanks for the tip! I've been blocking the crawlers at the CDN level (they use Chrome as the user agent, with older versions between 100 and 150 - any "user" on those versions gets forced into a bot challenge)
This helped, but I've disabled public timelines as well. I've left the local timelines enabled to help potential new users get a feel for the server before they sign up.
