Thanks for your support in (*gestures wildly*) all this. Having so many people show their support for us has really been amazing. I always believed that Wikimedians would side with our union, but when it really happened it was more emotionally impactful than I had expected. I don’t know if any other collection of workers will ever have the leverage that y’all are lending us, and I hope we can wield it responsibly to repay your trust.

While this was a success for the organizers and employees, the Wikimedia Foundation made the process more challenging than it needed to be, and operated with a disappointing lack of transparency. They have much to do to repair trust, in my view.

I'm both happy and sad at this news. Happy because the union got recognized. Sad because this implies Wikipedia leadership failed or screwed up enough to warrant a union
