I like it!! There was a brand of headphones/earbuds/something named the same thing, that one of my partners really loved. They were really sad when it got bought out and shut down, so it's cool to see the name go to something else that's awesome.
I have a tangential question. My understanding is that Google is requiring every Android app to be registered with them, and they're going to start blocking any that aren't. Are those apps going to continue to be installable on Nura?
I'm sorry, I was mixing up Nura with GrapheneOS. Since Graphene is modified Android I wondered if there might be an issue. But since Nura is not Android my question doesn't make much sense.
Totally fair, not super hard to mix up. To answer the question from what I've seen both Graphene and Lineage are not including the code to box out non credited apps. But they don't have a large enough user base to keep the devs motivated if I had to guess
That's not the reason. The app verification daemon is part of the Google Services, not of AOSP. Even if Graphene and Lineage wanted to ship it, they legally couldn't for the same reason they don't ship the playstore. But as soon as you install the playstore manually, which is possible, you'll get the verifier service, too.
Google can only enforce this on devices they control. PostmarketOS is not Android. Even if it was - if I install an app through an alternative app store or install it via "sideloading", there is nothing Google can do. Even LineageOS, which is based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) won't care about Googles new toy.
Nura is currently in the process of setting up a non profit to coordinate the development of the OS. One of the stated goals of this is to enable hardware partnerships, with German phone maker shift being floated as a potential partner.
I thought at first the name "Nura" was from Esperanto, meaning more or less "current" or "up-to-date", but nope! It comes from the name for certain Sardinian buildings from the Megalithic period, "Nuraghe":
There are now 13 English Wikipedia entries for the word Nura. This is my biggest criticism of the name. I hope it helps the project. I want a Linux phone that can run native Linux apps by default (and a few other features).

This is a really directionless project, they haven’t got a single phone that they are willing to say this is the one you should get if you want to try this software. But they did spend a year and a half rebranding.
I want this to work but FFS pick a single device and complete it enough to show people a working OS.

Android doesn't have any google by default, so these installs can't be forced by Google to do anything.
If anything, they will push more people to reinstall Android without Google, so they can install normal software on fdroid.

That said, I do not at all understand going with a .eco TLD.
I immediately think it'd be some green venture or something or other. Even .tech or something else would be far, far better IMO.
